About Sanjiv Lakhia, DO

Sanjiv Lakhia, DO is an osteopathic physician with specialty training in physical medicine and rehabilitation. In addition to practicing conventional physiatry, Dr. Lakhia has always brought a holistic perspective to patient care.

He received his doctor in osteopathic medicine (DO) from the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2002. Upon graduation, he completed a traditional rotating osteopathic internship year at Northside Hospital and Heart Institute in St. Petersburg, Florida.

This was followed by being selected as the first osteopathic physician into the physical medicine & rehabilitation allopathic residency program at Carolinas Rehabilitation in Charlotte, NC.

During this time, he was able to complete 300 hours in acupuncture training through the Helms Medical Institute which is nationally recognized as the premier physician acupuncture training program.

Upon completion of residency, Dr. Lakhia and his family returned to his hometown of Cincinnati, OH where he was in a large multispeciality practice and provided comprehensive non-surgical orthopedic and spine care for the following eight years.

In 2014, Dr. Lakhia and his family returned to the Charlotte area where he currently remains employed by a nationally recognized neurosurgery practice.

With his Indian roots, Dr. Lakhia was raised in a home that valued natural eastern methods of healing and the importance of proper nutrition and exercise in promoting optimal health.

Health and wellness are in his family DNA as his father has been a lifelong yoga instructor (The gifts of a great yoga teacher), his mother was a long time medical assistant, and his brother is a physician in the Cincinnati area. Additionally, his grandfather practiced medicine and homeopathy in India.

Beyond his board certification in physical medicine & rehab, Dr. Lakhia has had extensive formal and informal training in the healing medical arts.

In 2013 he became certified through the American Board of Integrative & Holistic medicine. He has done extensive coursework in chinese herbal medicine, functional medicine and integrative medicine.

Currently, he is a participating fellow in the 2022 Integrative Medicine fellowship class through the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine.

Dr. Lakhia’s areas of expertise include functional nutrition, exercise prescription, meditation and mind-body interventions as well as nutraceutical and herbal integrations into comprehensive wellness plans.

He has extensive experience developing integrative treatment plans to combat the effects of stress and pain and promote optimal health. He is a self described family man and father of three kids.

He enjoys long walks in nature and spending time with his family enjoying the mountains and beaches of the Carolinas. He follows a strict daily routine of exercise, meditation, and nutrition to support his desire to treat each of his patients with empathy, dedication, and respect.
